Payroll Accountant
Job Description
What You’ll Do
As we continue to expand our operations and reach, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our finance team. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible on a regular basis for managing all aspects of payroll reconciliation, payroll and benefit accruals and journal entries on a bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly schedule as required. In addition, this position will be tasked with managing payroll taxes at the federal, state and local levels. This may include registering the company in new states and working with the payroll vendor for any variances or necessary amendments. This position will also serve as a Payroll Specialist back-up when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the payroll processing team to address any discrepancies or issues related to payroll reconciliation or journal entry and resolve them promptly.
- Review Quarterly payroll tax fillings for federal and states, work with representatives to resolve issues or notices.
- Accrue payroll, bonus and benefit expenses at month end.
- Review biweekly payroll journal entries integrated to the accounting system NetSuite, reconcile all payroll related GL accounts: Accruals, withholding, benefits, taxes, 401K and others.
- Analyze monthly and quarterly payroll expenses and explain the flux.
- Support SOX and statutory audits related to payroll.
- Maintain GL mapping between payroll and accounting systems.
- Reconciliation of cash accounts as they relate to payroll fees and refunds.
- Record adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Prepare flux analysis for payroll related accounts.
- Monitor accounts for unexpected or unusual changes and research for a timely resolution.
- Manage integration of data between payroll and accounting systems.
- Validation of data related to employee department and location for accrual and reporting accuracy.
- When necessary, calculate and process regular bi-weekly payroll including incentive compensation, SPIFFs and scheduled additional payments.
- Research and resolve any payroll discrepancies that come through.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard payroll data and mitigate risks of errors or non-compliance.
- Maintain accurate and organized payroll records, including employee information, timesheets, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.
- Stay informed of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience of payroll accounting experience
- Working knowledge of payroll processes and how they impact P&L statements and balance sheets.
- Proven experience as a Payroll Accountant, preferably using Rippling Payroll and Oracle NetSuite or similar systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data accuracy and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities to address payroll accounting challenges effectively.
- Proficiency in using accounting software, spreadsheets, and other relevant financial tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees and external parties in a professional manner.
- Extensive experience with general accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with publicly traded companies is a plus.
- Strong experience with LTI and accounting practices associated with the various types of stock
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $75,000-$90,000. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
