About The Role

SmartThings is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our Product Operations team. Collaborating closely with leaders across the organization, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading new data analytics initiatives at SmartThings. You will be responsible for leveraging data to gain valuable insights, power data-driven decision-making, and enhance the overall performance and user experience of our smart home solutions.  This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of SmartThings through analytics and drive innovation in the IoT domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Samsung's Big Data Center and other global data teams to power our product decisions by enhancing existing datasets, reporting, and dashboards.
  • Act as a data-driven thought partner to our Product Managers and Product leadership team. Educate our teams to help us ask better questions, interpret findings more effectively, and drive informed decision making.
  • Develop or enhance self-service data tools to power insight, discovery, and communication. Conduct individual analyses when needed to drive business objectives, and facilitate training.
  • Build and execute on a roadmap for data enhancements to align with SmartThings' product vision and business objectives. Understand and communicate the building blocks needed, identify any gaps, and drive progress toward best-in-class practices.
  • Support data collection, governance, and compliance initiatives in partnership with teams across SmartThings globally. Identify and collect relevant data from different sources, ensuring data accuracy and completeness. Partner with global security teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and data governance policies while handling sensitive information and conducting analyses.
  • Provide technical leadership by staying up-to-date with industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies to continuously improve our approach.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)

 

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools/programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar, and experience with data visualization
  • Strong analytical mindset, customer orientation, and curiosity
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders around the globe
  • Ability to shift effectively between detail-oriented work and big-picture thinking
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, or similar role
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Superset, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Passion for IoT and smart home technologies, with a desire to contribute to an industry-leading company.
  • Knowledge of Korean language
  • International business and organizational experience

About The Team The team works on integrating IoT devices into the SmartThings platform. With the exponential growth of IoT devices over the past few years, we are building a dynamic platform to support these directly connected MQTT devices and Audio/Video devices and make it easier for these devices to work with the SmartThings platform. We primarily use Scala and a mix of the latest AWS service offering including EC2 and Kubernetes.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale the SmartThings cloud platform. You'll work on a platform that processes billions of events each day, have full end-to-end ownership of code and infrastructure and work with the latest technology at scale in a fun team environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud services that are highly available and fault-tolerant, from API to storage.

  • Improve quality and uptime for all of our applications.

  • Translate product feature ideas to production code.

  • Collaborate with other developers, internal and external partners, to create new features and improve existing functionalities.

  • Ability to lead projects that are not fully defined and influence direction as appropriate.

  • Proactively identify areas for improvements.

  • Drive strategy within the team area, and clearly communicate action plans across teams.

  • Mentor other engineers and lead technical onboarding.

  • Ability to work within established infrastructure and quickly become familiar.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 4 or more years of experience in a software role
  • Strong development skills (Either Java or another language on the JVM, Node or Golang)
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following cloud offerings: AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Experience with cloud services deployments, monitoring and production support
  • Understand the difference between prototype code and production ready code
  • Experience with linux systems, designing and developing REST APIs and with Git
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability work well in a diverse, team-focused environments
  • Excellent communication skills

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Kubernetes, EC2 managed delivery

  • Experience with large scale Infrastructure and distributed systems, at least 2 years supporting consumer-facing production-level cloud services

  • Experience with MQTT

  • Experience with Audio Video streaming technologies

  • Experience with Scala would be a huge plus
