As an experienced leader and subject matter expert in payroll tax reporting, you know how to lead and train a team and identify areas for process and procedure improvement. You strive for operational efficiency and leverage your technological literacy to obtain it. As a Senior Manager, responsible for federal and state withholding tax reporting, you will ensure that Justworks executes its payroll tax payment and filing obligations, completely, accurately and on time.  You will have the ability to dependably manage and build a team that executes a set of daily, quarterly, and annual tasks to make sure our clients are compliant.  Your role involves working cross-functionally to drive change, improvements and automation to improve workflows. In addition, you are excellent at solving customer issues, and communicating with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure Justworks remains in compliance with all of our obligations and certifications.

What You Will Work On

  • Manage, monitor and review all quarterly and annual payroll tax filing processes across federal , state and local jurisdictions, including 940, 941 and 941X filings, tax credits, state and local withholding returns
  • Coordinate all payroll tax processing and amendments including tax reconciliations, quarterly/year-end tax calculations, 1099 and W2 processing and conduct improvement testing, as required
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax deposits and tax filings for all jurisdictions and ensure accurate recording of liabilities and payments in the General Ledger
  • Ensure timely processing of payroll taxes in compliance with all tax rules
  • Research and maintain a working knowledge of payroll tax laws and ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local tax laws and provide payroll tax awareness of applicable changes accompanied with appropriate recommendations
  • Resolve escalated payroll tax inquiries/issues, generated by our Customer Success team, within the agreed upon service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Triage incoming issues/inquiries to identify need for engineering intervention
  • Participate in cross functional projects teams for development system enhancements and/or companywide initiatives
  • Ensure internal resource center includes up-to-date payroll tax policies and procedures
  • Execute changes to payroll tax processes and procedures along with key stakeholders in Engineering, Product, Finance, Customer Success, and Compliance
  • Generate and maintain efficiency metrics relating to payroll tax withholding reporting and notices received into our Notice Tracking system\
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15+ years of payroll tax filing and payment experience
  • Experience with quarterly federal 941 filings, amendments and tax credits
  • Experience with data queries, Excel, Google Sheets, Tableau and metrics generation
  • Experience with Mastertax and navigating federal and state websites
  • Technologically savvy; experience with utilizing multiple systems and software programs
  • Experience with tax reconciliations and journal entry preparation
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) / Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Experience with multi-state accounts for single large employer OR multi-employer in multiple states required
  • Experience working with CPEOs and multiple PEOs preferred
  • Process-driven while able to be resourceful and adaptable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The base wage range for this position based in our Tampa Office is targeted at $128,000.00 to $147,200.00 per year.
