About CommandBar

====================

CommandBar is a platform for helping software companies make their software easier to use (aka a “user assistance platform”).

How many times have you been frustrated by software?

Maybe you didn’t know how to make the software do what you wanted, so you had to wade through pages and pages of support documentation to figure it out. Or suffer through a sassy chatbot. Or worst of all, maybe you were bombarded by a bunch of unhelpful pop-ups prompting you to TAKE A TOUR and CHECK OUT WHATS NEW.

These unhelpful experiences (the help center, the chatbot, the popups) are trying to solve a real problem — we use so many tools today that it’s hard to master every one. But sadly these techniques for helping users are ineffective and annoying.

CommandBar makes any software product simpler, faster, and personalized.

We do this by embedding experiences in our customers’ products that actually guide and assist users. Some of these work by capturing the users’ input directly and responding with personalized results (like a custom walkthrough or a clip from a training video). Others work by proactively nudging users (but only when we think they’re likely to find it helpful).

Today, CommandBar serves over 15M end users from forward-thinking SaaS companies like GustoHashicorpNetlifyFreshworks, and AngelList.

Despite that big number, we're a small team of 25 today that's just beginning to grow, which means tons of opportunities to do trajectory-altering work (for the company’s trajectory and your own). If you're inspired to upgrade how humans use software, come join!

Why CommandBar?

===================

You’re probably really talented. Why should you take your talents to CommandBar? Here are reasons we think working with us is uniquely high impact — on the world and your career.

  • Our ratio of impact on the world is high (and we intend to keep it that way).
  • There is a lot of room to grow and lead teams (if you’re into that) as we scale. A lot of the roles that we are hiring for are the first in the function so you’ll need to bring 0 to 1 energy.
  • We're at the forefront of new technologies, including new developments in AI (which we use heavily to power our product).
  • The team we’ve assembled so far is world-class — talented, curious, kind, and obsessed with building delightful, fast, simple software.

The main reasons for joining CommandBar are belief in our product and the opportunities for growth described above. That said, our benefits are pretty sweet 🙂  Overall, we believe in benefits that respect individual choice and reflect the fact that optimizing your life outside of work leads to better performance at work.

The OTE range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000 (base + commission).

Our benefits include:

  • Flexible PTO with a 3 week minimum
  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents
  • 12 weeks parental leave for all parents
  • 401k with matching
  • A learning and development budget
  • A generous 'Make Your Life Easier' stipend
  • A home office budget
  • 3x/year all together including 2 onsites at our office in San Francisco and 1 offsite at a fun 🌴 location!

Account Executive @ CommandBar

==============================

CommandBar is looking for early sales hires who are passionate, high-energy, and driven to bring CommandBar to more companies and more end users. You’ll help software companies of all shapes and sizes improve their UX with CommandBar, and, as one of our earliest hires, help define our sales playbook, influence how our product evolves, and shape our team culture.

What you’ll do:

  • Sell CommandBar, end-to-end. This means identifying the right decision makers (whoever experiences the pain of UX challenges – Heads of Products to CX Leaders), working with them to understand how CommandBar can help, and getting them up and running.
  • To do that, you’ll become an expert in UX, and educate companies on how they give their users the best possible experience and in doing so drive their core metrics.
  • Managing and growing a sales pipeline. You’ll handle a mix of inbound (we’re lucky to have great word-of-mouth inbound) and outbound via your own prospecting. To do the latter, you’ll need a well-tuned radar for CommandBar’s ICP.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of our rapidly evolving product, and shape product strategy by sharing what features are resonating and what unsolved problems customers bring up.

What will help you succeed:

  • 2-4 years of experience in a closing role.
  • Have a proven track record of hitting or exceeding quota.
  • Self-selecting into a startup and the chaos and opportunity that come along with that.
  • Excitement about new technologies and user experience. You notice when software is fun to use and get annoyed by poorly thought out designs.
  • Empathy and eagerness to understand our customers' needs and be an exceptional consultative seller.
  • Be an exceptional written and spoken communicator.
  • Desire to get technical and learn more about CommandBar’s product.
  • Ability to build great relationships with technical prospects.
  • Outstanding time management skills. We’re busy so efficiency and meeting deadlines are critical.

Bonus points for:

  • Previous relevant technical sales experience
  • Experience selling into Product, CX, and Product Marketing personas
  • Knowledge or experience with MEDDICC
  • Startup experience

QA Engineering @ CommandBar

===========================

CommandBar’s products are deployed to millions of users, and our customers rely on our product as a core part of their product, directly exposed to their customers. Our bugs are their bugs. As a result, maintaining an extremely high quality bar isn’t optional — it’s a requirement for our existence and growth.

We’re looking to add a lead QA engineer to help us maintain and expand our QA capabilities.

Today, our QA team consists of a talented group of QA analysts who bring substantial knowledge of our product’s intricacies. We’re looking for someone to lead this effort and fully own its outcomes. Ownership of QA at CommandBar means:

  • Driving test plans and frameworks to increase coverage and reduce recurring issues.
  • Owning implementation of those test plans, with close collaboration with the broader engineering team.
  • Monitoring QA results, customer bug reports, and code changes to determine fragile parts of the codebase that need better test coverage.
  • Mentoring junior QA analysts in order to help them grow.
  • Partner with the engineering team across the feature lifecycle: Identifying risks in new specs, ensuring that new features are testable, collaborating on resolving issues, and making release decisions.
  • Empowering the rest of the team (a lot of us use our product a lot!) to participate in the QA process by reporting bugs.
  • Where appropriate, directly interfacing with our customers to (a) capture information about a quality issue (to help prevent it in the future) and (b) explain our QA processes (sometimes our customers ask!)

Why should you join us for this role?

  • You’re not starting from zero. We have a fantastic QA team, high backend + frontend test coverage, and a world-class engineering team.
  • You will have high levels of autonomy. We are a small team that empowers each other to make big decisions and moves quickly once we make them.
  • This role is extremely high impact — every issue we resolve and every improvement opportunity you note will directly impact millions of users.
  • Our product is new and dynamic, which means you’ll have exposure to novel QA problems. As an embedded product, we need to be thoughtful of ways to test across multiple base environments, and as an AI product, we need to build cutting-edge generative AI testing.
  • You will get very deep in our customers’ products, which is cool since we serve some extremely innovative companies (e.g., HCP Terraform, LaunchDarkly, Netlify, AngelList).
  • It’s still day zero at CommandBar. There’s a ton of room for you to have an outsized impact on our trajectory and do the best work of your career.

What will help you succeed?

  • Experience:

+ Have worked at a startup / small-company before

+ Have built test plans & made test framework decisions from the ground up

+ No previous management experience is expected, but might be helpful.

  • Skills:

+ Very strong technical skills: You should feel comfortable reading / writing code. Our stack is Python / Django (backend), Node / Typescript / React (Frontend), and AWS (Infrastructure)

+ Growth mindset: Excitement about process improvement, self-improvement, and helping others grow.

+ Detail-oriented: Enjoy living in the weeds & obsessing over the details

+ Communication: Able to collaborate effectively across different folks. This role will be working heavily with the CTO, the technical support lead, and the broader engineering team.

What we aren’t looking for?

We aren’t looking for someone who wants to spend the majority of their time managing. This role will require a lot of IC work to be successful.

FAQs

====

Can I try out how CommandBar works?

Yes! You can try out a simple implementation on our docs or marketing site. You can also try us out by creating a Shortcut account to see our widget in a real-software setting.

What are CommandBar's return-to-office plans?

As the COVID-19 situation develops, we'll remain COVID-cautious. The office is currently open to vaccinated team members. We monitor case rates and pandemic-related developments daily to ensure the office remains a safe place for everybody to work.

It's been so fun to collaborate on hard problems and share wins in person. We're also lucky to have a beautiful space in Soma that we all find enhances our creativity and productivity.

What's the interview process like?

Every interview starts the same way: two to three casual conversations with team members so (1) we can get to know you, your background, interests, and career goals and (2) you can learn about CommandBar. After those conversations take place, we'll agree on a written interview plan that's tailored to your role. Usually this begins with a domain-specific screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, or a portfolio review for a designer) and might include a take-home component as well. It's very important to us that our interview process be transparent, as stress-free-as-possible, and gives you an accurate picture of what working at CommandBar is like.

About CommandBar

Despite that big number, we're a small team that's just beginning to grow, which means tons of opportunities to do trajectory-altering work (for the company’s trajectory and your own). If you're inspired to upgrade how humans use software, come join!

Why CommandBar?

You’re probably really talented. Why should you take your talents to CommandBar? Here are reasons we think working with us is uniquely high impact — on the world and your career.

  • Our ratio of impact on the world is high (and we intend to keep it that way).
  • There is a lot of room to grow and lead teams (if you’re into that) as we scale. A lot of the roles that we are hiring for are the first in the function so you’ll need to bring 0 to 1 energy.
  • We're on the forefront of new technologies, including new developments in AI (which we use heavily to power our product).

The salary range for this role is $55,000 to $75,000, plus equity.

Our benefits include:

  • Flexible PTO with a 3-week minimum
  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents
  • 12 weeks of parental leave for all parents
  • 401k with matching
  • A learning and development budget
  • A generous 'Make Your Life Easier' stipend
  • A home office budget
  • 3x/year all together including 2 onsites at our office in San Francisco and 1 offsite at a fun 🌴 location!

Operations @ CommandBar

This role will give you a front row seat to how business operations is run at a growth stage start-up. If you want to forge a career in startups, or maybe start your own one day, this role will give you exposure to pretty much every aspect of company building.

You’ll work directly with Manaan, our Operations lead, across all functions, including: HR, Finance, Legal/Compliance, Revenue Operations, and Customer Support.

In this role, you will not only maintain our existing 0 —> 1 processes but suggest and execute on improvements. Additionally, you will always be on the lookout for areas of optimization or new initiatives the Ops team should be taking on.

This role presents a unique opportunity for a candidate who is excited about getting broad visibility into every aspect of a high-growth, scaling startup. It is ideal for a “generalist” who likes to tackle complex business problems. This individual will work cross-functionally with EPD (engineering, product, and design), GTM (go-to-market), and leadership.

What will you do, generally - a non-exhaustive list:

  • Lead the development, improvement, and management of operational processes, like collecting bills from customers, keeping a pulse on team productivity, and more.
  • Drive internal data accuracy and improved reporting for internal and external stakeholders
  • Generate comprehensive reporting and dashboards to support data-driven decision-making
  • Consistently update and maintain employee records, vendor contracts, and other important business documents
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefit laws/regulation; maintains compliance with SOC2, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance items
    • Support during annual SOC2 audit
  • Research projects to support operations and company initiatives

What a random day might look like:

  • Schedule a set of final round interviews for a candidate
  • Research how to get more AWS free credits so we can save a bit of money 😊
  • Review tests and controls in Vanta, our security and compliance management platform.
    • Resolve ops related tickets
    • Create internal tickets to the appropriate team member (e.g. an engineer) to take action and resolve the issue.
  • Acquire and compare quotes for business insurance renewal
  • Find me that piece of paper I had in my hand yesterday morning

What will help you succeed?

  • Quick learner and highly adaptable. Learning is a never-ending process for you. You enjoy learning and can pick up on new concepts and tools quickly. You are also open and can adapt easily to new processes and ways of thinking. We’re in our early stages and we value team members who can move fast and be data-driven.
  • Organized multitasker. Your organizational skills help you to move easily among different tasks and to prioritize your work, conducting tasks ranging from research to execution to maintenance. You’re a highly organized multitasker who excels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving. You don’t just spot gaps; you fill them. You’re not afraid to take initiative and propose new ideas and improvements.
  • Great attitude and communication skills. No job is too small and you take pride in your work, even if no one is there to see it. You communicate clearly and empathetically in writing and verbally. You build trust with team members through active listening, follow through, and open communication. You treat feedback, giving and receiving, as a gift and you work well with others.
  • #StartupVibes. Excitement about joining an early stage start-up and wearing multiple hats. This is not a good role for someone looking for extreme clarity on what they will be working on one quarter from now 😁 but if drinking from the firehose excites you, this is the role for you 👑

Tools we use

(it’s okay if you’re not familiar with these but if you are, that’s great too!):

  • HR: Gusto, Deel, Certn, Human Interest, Ashby
  • Finance: Excel, Google Sheets, Equals, Pry, Ramp, QBO
  • Security: Vanta
  • RevOps: Salesforce, Hubspot, Outreach, 6Sense, Apollo, Rattle, Gong, Zoom
  • Customer Support: Intercom, Thena, Front
  • General: Slack, GSuite, Notion, Excel

When it comes to proving the value we provide for our customers, we choose to “show, not tell.”

We believe In learning and the power of “yet”

We believe In learning and the power of “yet”

We believe that through curiosity and dedication to learning we can overcome challenges, build skills and create solutions that are not possible . . . yet.

We believe starting from first principles gives us the courage to think differently.

We believe starting from first principles gives us the courage to think differently.

We always rely on a first principles approach to understand and solve problems. Once we build conviction in what is true, we build a solution from that foundation.

We believe being human means recognizing the humanity in ourselves and others.

We believe being human means recognizing the humanity in ourselves and others.

We create a positive impact on the world, beginning with taking good care of ourselves, our families, our teammates, our customers and our communities.

We believe businesses don’t have problems, people do.

We solve for the needs of the individuals who work for our customers by developing empathy for what they think, feel, say and do.

Be Boomi

Be Boomi

We build communities of good humans.

We show up for each other with empathy, compassion and purpose.

We strive to integrate a more diverse voice for a stronger and smarter team.

We win as One Boomi.
Be You

Be You

We build authentic relationships through actions that inspire confidence in each other and our work.

We lead with integrity.

We bring our whole, unique and authentic selves to our work and relationships with ourselves, our customers, our partners and our communities.
Be Bold

Be Bold

We take ownership for the work we do as individuals and the results they bare.

We commit to continuously being better.

We strive to exceed our customers, partners and community's expectations.

Our curiosity drives us to do better.

We are inspired by yesterday, but create for tomorrow.
Direct & transparent

Direct & transparent

We communicate directly and operate transparently (internally) by default, which helps us move fast and make good decisions. We proactively give and receive candid feedback out of respect for each other. We respond positively to directness and transparency because the alternative is worse: not hearing feedback, waiting longer to hear the same information, or having less valuable input into a decision. We are willing to disagree and commit.
Win together

Win together

Each of us is an owner here in two ways: of our work and of the company (as team members and shareholders). We all win only if the entire company wins, which calls for the right balance of collaboration and ownership. Too little collaboration causes chaos and brings disappointing results. Too much collaboration crushes ownership and dulls outcomes. As owners of the company, we speak up when something is wrong (even when it’s hard) and help create an environment where we respectfully consider every voice.
High agency

High agency

If all Sourcegraph teammates, except for one, got stranded on a desert island without internet access for a month, we know that person would figure out how to keep Sourcegraph running and serving our customers. We are self-motivated. Everyone here has a high degree of autonomy and freedom, which requires hard work, responsibility, initiative, fast iteration, and optimism in the face of challenges. We think and act like owners of our work and hold each other accountable to do the same so we can do the best work of our lives.
Dev love

Dev love

Everything we do is ultimately for devs (anyone who codes). Every dollar we earn comes from devs trying, using, loving, fighting for, and sharing our product. All Sourcegraph teammates code to better understand our users and customers and to do their job better (in ways that make sense for their role). Our long-term mission is to make it so everyone codes, not just the 0.1% of the world’s population who are devs—just like universal literacy.
Ownership

Ownership

Doing WHATEVER IT TAKES

Everyone is an owner at Starburst and has the autonomy to make a significant impact on where we are today and where we are going. Regardless of the role you perform here, we want drivers. Working Together Towards A Higher Purpose
The Journey Fulfills Us

The Journey Fulfills Us

While we seek to find fulfillment through our work, we also know that this work is just part of our lives. We seek to find a balance so that we can enjoy life day by day, accomplishing goals and great things together along the way, but not at the expense of our overall happiness and enjoyment. We work with talented and fascinating people with a voracious curiosity to learn from one another. Take the time to appreciate one another, celebrate our accomplishments, and find enjoyment in the opportunity to work together. In the end, the journey is where we will have spent our time together – not the destination. The journey is an end in itself.
Respect Elevates Us

Respect Elevates Us

It’s a great thing to work with people you respect. It’s a great thing to be respected. We try to find and encourage the best in one another, while accepting our differences, and respecting individuality. We seek to produce work that perpetuates and amplifies this respect. When we respect one another, we can collaborate better, trusting that the care and efforts we have put into our work will be appreciated. We trust and have faith in the intent and capabilities of one another. We recognize that our unique perspectives and skills make our products and services more robust. Our diversity makes us stronger. Our deep respect for one another sets a standard and drives us. Empower one another. Appreciate one another.
Hard Work Differentiates Us

Hard Work Differentiates Us

We strive to accomplish tremendous things. While we are always seeking better ways of working, we also acknowledge that, most often, great accomplishments require a great amount of work. Our accomplishments give us confidence and encouragement to accomplish more. We expect our work to speak for itself, showing our clients and those around us how capable and driven we can be when the work requires it. In addition to working hard, we also seek to work smart, finding and reducing barriers for ourselves and our clients. Our persistence and our ability to identify and focus on what matters is what truly differentiates us. We support one another and understand that it’s the sum of our collective work that truly matters.
Learning Inspires Us

Learning Inspires Us

For many people, learning is a means to an end. For us, learning is a goal in itself. We are constantly striving for better. Better ways to create. Better ways to connect. Better ways to be fulfilled. We identify and admit what we don’t know as an opportunity to learn from one another. We open ourselves to new ideas and information. We endeavor to share our knowledge and experience with one another so that we can grow both individually and as a collective. Be curious. Be vulnerable. Find empathy. Seek understanding.
Integrity Drives Us

Integrity Drives Us

Our clients hire us because they have difficult problems to solve. We will only be successful if we are honest, truthful, and speak with candor and conviction, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable. This is how we build trusting relationships with our clients and one another. We need to be compassionate and diplomatic, but only by expecting and modeling honesty, can we build long-term, trusting, and meaningful relationships. Trust first. Be candid early. Carry a well-calibrated bullshit detector. Seek truth and integrity. Appreciate honesty, especially when it is difficult.

Bias for action
