Description of Role
Our home-grown technology platform gives Wild Alaskan a unique advantage in the market, and as VP of Engineering at Wild Alaskan, you’ll lead and grow a team of architects, engineers, and QA analysts to craft the system and team of the future. Reporting to the SVP of Product and Technology, you’ll balance feature development with site performance and technical infrastructure to help prioritize the team’s work, keeping our product and our members at the center of all we do. We are looking for a people- and process-focused leader with a solid understanding of best practices and how to implement them across all aspects of an engineering team.
Core Responsibilities
- Work with product, design, and internal stakeholders to bring new functionality and products to market
- Collaborate with the SVP of Product and the VP of Software Architecture to develop short and long term technology strategies to move the business forward, keeping our members at the center of all we do
- Establish and align on goals for the Engineering team that align with overall company goals, vision, and strategy
- Manage 4 - 8 direct reports, including mentoring, identifying skills gaps, providing growth opportunities for members of the team
- Create and implement processes to help identify, attract, and retain top talent.
- Build credibility with engineers, lead technical reviews and discussions, ensure best practices are developed and enforced, and advocate for the needs of the engineers
- Benchmark industry best practices, streamline processes, and deploy new tools and technology to bring products to market quickly and efficiently
- Develop engineering metrics to review results, comparing them with established objectives to drive continuous improvement across the team

Requirements
- Demonstrated track record of excellence with 10+ years of relevant experience and increasing responsibility within technology teams
- Experience hiring and managing software engineers
- Working knowledge of PHP, Laravel, vue js, AWS, and event-driven architecture.
- Proven ability to prioritize effectively and succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced, and constantly changing environment
- Deep knowledge of industry trends and best practices
- Experience building and maintaining internal stakeholder relationships and vendor partnerships
- Experience managing a budget
- Proactivity; a self-starter who is equally comfortable seeking out projects and proposing solutions independently or working as part of a team
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; comfortable giving and receiving feedback
Nice to Haves
- Deep, hands on experience with PHP, Laravel, vue.js, and AWS
- 5+ years prior experience in a high-growth startup, ideally within eCommerce
- Prior experience and comfort working fully remote
- Passion for sustainability and seafood

The starting salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Wild Alaskan’s benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k, PTO, safe/sick time, vacation, parental leave and more, as well as a delicious box of free fish every month.
