Philo: TV on the Internet!!!

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted native app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while cooking up next generation multi-screen and multi-user playback experiences.

QA Engineer - Automation Specialist

The frontend engineering teams at Philo ship applications to tens of millions of devices (e.g. Roku, iOS, Tizen, FireTV, Web, Chromecast, etc.) 10+ platforms. They are responsible for shipping high-quality apps, at a rapid pace and with an eye towards business value and user delight.

With so many devices, so many form factors, and so many features, things inevitably go wrong! We’re looking for a QA engineer to help us make sure that what we ship meets our high bar for quality. We believe that QA should be involved in the software development lifecycle from the beginning (what we call the “product discovery phase”), so that they know what “correct looks like”. Our QA team takes a collaborative approach and teams up with developers to test iteratively as the feature takes shape.

Because we’re a small team, automation is a key part of our QA strategy; we have regression suites for all of our major platforms. We expect our QA engineers to actively participate in the automation and add to the suite as we productionize new features. With that said, we still do manual QA on our features while they are still in the experimentation phase. In this role you will be expected to do both manual QA and automation testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the quality of 1-2 platforms. This includes manually testing new features, and improving the test suite for that platform.
  • Build upon automation suites across all of our major connected TV platforms including Web-TV (Samsung/Tizen, LG, Vizio), AndroidTV/FireTV, and Roku.
  • Work with product and engineering to prioritize test cases based on past bugs and risk tolerance within different parts of the app.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to incorporate new features into the regression suite.
  • Help developers triage and understand bugs that are found.
  • Facilitate company-wide bug bashes.
  • Own and update release documentation to reflect current production deployments, feature availability, and version histories.
  • Partner with devs to create test requests in our ticketing system (JIRA), and ensure tickets are kept up-to-date during the development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of QA experience
  • 2+ years of experience writing QA automation test code
  • Familiarity with Typescript/JS for test writing
  • Suite.st Testing Framework experience is a plus
  • Experience writing QA automation tests against connected TV and mobile devices
  • Experience testing video playback
  • Experience or familiarity with at least two of: Android testing, Roku testing, Apple testing, Web testing
  • Experience working closely with technical leads and engineering teams to drive project execution and maintain high code quality standards
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills

Philo: TV on the Internet (TVoIP)

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while creating innovative ways for users to engage with their favorite content and discover that perfect show to watch next.

Roku at Philo

The Roku team at Philo is responsible for building our product experience on one of the biggest platforms in streaming TV: Roku streaming devices and Roku-enabled smart TVs. Philo’s Roku app has been a crucial platform for us since the Philo service first launched – Roku was our first “10-foot” (streaming TV device) platform and is one of our largest platforms by minutes watched. Historically, Roku has also been one of our primary platforms for prototyping nascent Philo features.

We’re a small autonomous team building apps with high engagement and millions of installs, which collectively are responsible for a huge fraction of the billions of minutes watched on Philo each year. We are passionate about crafting the best possible UX to connect our users with the content they love, providing a seamless viewing experience while surprising them with new features and capabilities. We’re highly focused on optimizing the 10-Foot Experience, and you will directly contribute to that effort. By joining the Roku team, you will be working on TV platforms at a TV company (📺📺📺📺👩‍💻📺📺📺📺), allowing you to make a large impact on Philo product design and development.

Recent projects on our Roku platform have included:

  • Building Philo’s next generation TV guide – a heavily virtualized, and highly performant modern take on the classic live TV browsing experience
  • Creating new ways to “watch while you browse” with picture-in-picture video and full screen overlays
  • Experimenting with autoplaying video and dynamic browsing experiences across collections of show and movie tiles
  • Creating a Storybook inspired development environment for our React-like Brightscript UI component library
  • Building a platform that allows us to effectively deploy, monitor, and rapidly iterate on experiments
  • Utilizing new BrightScript features like classes and types to augment the native language
  • Adding new Rooibos unit tests to our continuous integration pipeline

Philo engineers own what they build from start to finish and are passionate about continuously delivering delightful features to a huge user base. If you’re a Roku developer who cares deeply about writing quality code, using the latest tools & technologies to push the envelope of what’s possible on the platform across a variety of form factors and viewing experiences, we would love to talk to you!

As a Roku Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Building the Philo experience on Roku devices
  • Running experiments to monitor and analyze the impact of new features
  • Contributing to UX design decisions using your domain expertise
  • Helping the Philo frontend team grow

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience with the Roku platform, including SceneGraph and other Roku APIs
  • Familiarity with the Roku ecosystem, including capabilities, limitations, and best practices across devices
  • Familiarity with React, Redux concepts
  • 4+ years of frontend or UI experience
  • 2+ years of Roku development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field

A strong candidate might also have one or more of these:

  • Experience with GraphQL-based APIs
  • Development experience with video playback, cross-device interoperability (e.g. casting), or other 10-foot, connected TV platforms in general (e.g. Roku, Samsung or LG Smart TVs, FireTV, Android TV or Apple TV).

Company Overview

====================

Deepgram is the leading voice AI platform for developers building speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS) and full speech-to-speech (STS) offerings. 200,000+ developers build with Deepgram’s voice-native foundational models – accessed through APIs or as self-managed software – due to our unmatched accuracy, latency and pricing. Customers include software companies building voice products, co-sell partners working with large enterprises, and enterprises solving internal voice AI use cases. The company ended 2024 cash-flow positive with 400+ enterprise customers, 3.3x annual usage growth across the past 4 years, over 50,000 years of audio processed and over 1 trillion words transcribed. There is no organization in the world that understands voice better than Deepgram.

Company Operating Rhythm

============================

At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset—AI use and comfort aren’t optional, they’re core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.

Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Candidates should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into their workflows, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do.

Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly. This may not be the right role if you’re not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you’re seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5.

At Deepgram, we make it easy to create inspiring voice experiences. Today, we offer the Deepgram Enterprise Runtime, which powers low-latency, high-quality, affordable Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Voice Intelligence and Voice Agent APIs. What’s next? We’re building the speech company.

Our Customer Success team, known as The Heartbeat of Deepgram, sits at the intersection of customers, product, and growth. We’re not here just to “manage accounts”; we make Deepgram successful in our customers’ environments by combining technical expertise with commercial impact. Customer Success Engineers are hands-on partners who ensure adoption, solve complex technical challenges, and highlight opportunities for expansion. At the same time, we bring back the insights that shape Deepgram’s roadmap and the internal tools we build to support customers.

Who You Are

---------------

You are not a traditional CSM. You’re a Partner Success Engineer, someone who thrives at the intersection of APIs, customer outcomes, and channel growth. You have a strong technical foundation and are comfortable running demos, guiding architecture discussions, and helping customers integrate AI-driven solutions into their workflows. You’re equally skilled at reading a room, building trust with executives, and uncovering growth opportunities that come from technical adoption. You’ve likely been a Partner Manager, Technical Account Manager, Sales Engineer, Implementation Engineer, or Support Engineer, and you’re excited to bring that blended experience to help customers realize value from day one and scale it over time.

As a Partner Success Engineer, you will nurture and grow relationships with strategic customers and technology partners, leading initiatives that drive joint adoption, enablement, and measurable business outcomes. You will own the lifecycle for assigned partners from onboarding and enablement through engagement, performance analysis, and expansion.

You will be pivotal in aligning partner strategies with Deepgram’s roadmap and strategy, ensuring both Deepgram and our partners achieve shared success.

What You’ll Do

------------------

  • Develop and scale best practices, processes, and tools for partner success management.
  • Act as a technical expert and strategic advisor to strategic partners, engaging directly with developers, engineers, and executives to align business goals with technical solutions.
  • Build, nurture, and sustain partner/customer relationships across all personas interacting with Deepgram (from developers, program managers to CIOs, CTOs, and other C-level stakeholders).
  • Conduct regular on-site visits with partners, work hands-on to drive adoption, and actively embed Deepgram into their workflows
  • Own and manage the full partner lifecycle: onboarding, adoption, technical enablement, expansion, and advocacy.
  • Focus on making Deepgram successful in the partner ecosystem; ensuring products are integrated, enabled, and adopted effectively, applying best practices, reference architectures, and creative solutions to drive outcomes.
  • Continuously operate in discovery mode, surfacing issues, deeply understanding their complexity and business impact, and translating them into actionable requirements for internal teams.
  • Confidently run live product demos, guide architecture discussions, and troubleshoot L1-style issues, bridging the gap between technical support, solutions design, and commercial growth.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Deepgram APIs, integrations, and AI/ML technologies.
  • Leverage AI to amplify your impact; be an expert in how you can apply AI to drive customer outcomes, surface insights, and improve internal systems.
  • Proactively identify & scope opportunities for expansion (cross-sell, upsell, multi-product adoption), partnering with Sales.
  • Proactively initiate and lead executive business reviews, joint planning sessions, and strategy workshops to stay ahead of risks, ensure alignment, and surface opportunities for growth.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, influencing product roadmap, GTM strategy, and even the internal tools and processes we build to support customers.
  • Track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (adoption, usage, health, satisfaction, expansion, and overall revenue impact).
  • Lead issue resolution and serve as an escalation point for complex, cross-functional partner matters, ensuring timely and satisfactory outcomes.

You’ll Love This Role If You

--------------------------------

  • Thrive at the intersection of sales engineering, account management, and customer success.
  • Have high EQ and high learning index, you read the room, adapt your style, and quickly absorb technical and business complexity.
  • Are a strong communicator who can keep many stakeholders aligned and focused, often through constant updates and over-communication on status and ownership.
  • Are energized by technical problem-solving, live demos, and translating support questions into growth conversations or business outcomes.
  • See customer health and technical adoption not as endpoints but as the fuel for revenue expansion.
  • Value collaboration and thrive in high-growth, fast-paced environments where priorities shift quickly.
  • Have a high degree of integrity and can work both collaboratively and independently in a remote WFH environment. Being self-directed is key to staying proactive.
  • Enjoy leveraging data to guide decisions, uncover insights, and identify opportunities for program improvement.
  • Are persistent, resourceful, and able to adapt your communication style to suit both technical and business audiences.
  • Are thoughtful in your approach and constantly question the status quo. Just because we do things a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s the best way!

It’s Important To Us That You Have

  • 7–10+ years in Technical Account Management, Sales Engineering, and/or Enterprise Customer Success (with strong technical focus), at innovative, API-driven technology companies (developer-first, developer tools, or emerging AI/tech)
  • A proven track record in roles that blend customer engagement with technical expertise, navigating between solution design, technical problem-solving, and commercial growth.
  • Hands-on experience with running product demos, POCs, or technical workshops with enterprise customers.
  • Demonstrated success identifying expansions, cross-sell, and upsell opportunities in complex enterprise accounts.
  • Strong technical aptitude: able to discuss APIs, developer workflows, and troubleshoot basic L1-style support questions (no coding required, but must be fluent in technical conversations)
  • Experience engaging across technical teams (developers, architects, support) and executive buyers (CIO, CTO, VP Engineering, etc.). Demonstrated success building strong relationships and delivering key business outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills, with proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders (including executives, technical teams, and sales).

Engineering Manager

 •
Oso
New York
1-50

Oso is an authorization platform backed by Sequoia and Felicis, helping developers build access control into their applications. It provides core abstractions for modeling and iterating on authorization, plus powerful policy tooling and a fully managed service.

lMcU
aK2O
HqLp
hsU7,9azy
K4X3

Old problem, new $25B+ market

Companies like AWS, Stripe, and Twilio have shown that if a technology isn't core to your value proposition, you should offload it. Still, every engineering team builds and rebuilds one piece: authorization, how you control who has access to what in your app. We intend to change that.

We see a world where developers never roll their own authorization again, and instead say, "Just use Oso" – the same way you might say, "Oh, you should just use Postgres for that." In doing so, we're creating the $25B+ authorization market.

Why Oso?

We have the lead – in traction, capital, and team.

  • Traction: Oso is used by thousands of companies from startups to the Fortune 500, like Wayfair, ProductBoard, Vanta, Brex, Verizon, ZoomInfo, and Duolingo.

  • Capital: We're backed by the world’s best investors, including Sequoia, Felicis, and a standout group of infrastructure founders and operators: Olivier Pomel (Founder, Datadog), Dev Ittycheria (CEO, MongoDB), Armon Dadgar (Founder, HashiCorp), Edith Harbaugh (Founder, LaunchDarkly), Guy Podjarny (Founder, Snyk), Paul Copplestone (Founder, Supabase), Christina Cacioppo (Founder, Vanta), and Calvin French-Owen (Founder, Segment).

  • Team: We've spent 5+ years going deep on the domain. We've met with thousands of engineering teams and know more about this problem than anyone. And we have two of the best developer go-to-market leaders on earth who have done it before at MongoDB and Snyk.

Why now?

We're at an inflection point. What it takes to get from where we are today to a world where developers say “Just use Oso” is going to be different. And we see that.

The opportunity is for you to join at this inflection point, in a role that’s bigger and different than usual.

What you'll do

You have the opportunity to make a career-defining impact while still having the fundamentals of the business de-risked (e.g., market, funding, traction).

  • Take the foundation that we have, and work with our cofounder/CTO to build out the vision. This includes not just how things work under the hood. Getting developer experience right, for instance, is a key ingredient to winning the market, and you will help us get this right too.

  • Recruit the absolute best engineers – engineers who want to lean into product and talk to users, who can build a highly technical and complex solution, and who are ready to do whatever it takes. We're still early enough that you will help shape the culture.

  • Lead the engineering team by setting ambitious goals and inspiring the team to deliver.

  • Get your hands dirty and jump in on whatever else it takes to build the company.

  • Work with the founder/CEO and other execs (e.g. marketing, sales) to make Oso wildly successful.

Who you are

  • You're ambitious. You want to win big. You can't stand to be around anything but execution at the highest level. You have an inner motor to move fast.

  • You're an owner. You are accountable to results over the process. You see yourself not just as a leader of the engineering team, but also as a leader of the company.

  • You're resilient. Building a startup is not for the faint of heart. You see the challenges as not just normal, but actually desirable.

  • You want to grow, and help others grow. You self-reflect often. You give feedback, and you seek it out.

  • You prioritize the customer above all else. You want to understand our users' world and prioritize solving their authorization problems above everything else.

...and you inspire the same in those around you.

Requirements

  • You have thrived working in a startup

  • Experience leading and growing an engineering team in a high-growth company

  • Experience as a programmer and/or engineering leader building complex systems at varying levels of the stack

Benefits

In addition to cash compensation, Oso offers a Total Rewards package that includes equity grants, health benefits, and more:

  • Competitive health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Mental healthcare to all employees and anyone in their family through Spring Health

  • Unlimited access to financial advisors through Northstar

  • Equity Package

  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO)

  • Paid parental leave

  • Flexible work options

  • One Medical Membership

  • Quarterly hackathons... and prizes!

  • Free team lunches every month

The starting salary for this role is between $195,000-$240,000/year plus equity. Your exact offer will vary based on a number of factors including experience level, skillset, market location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.

Oso is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran or disability status.
