The pace of innovation in cancer treatment has accelerated dramatically in recent years, with new breakthroughs happening every day and over 600 cancer drugs now on the market. And yet, the technology doctors use to take advantage of these innovations hasn’t evolved in decades. In fact, most doctors still use a software system that was designed in the 1990s for billing and compliance to make life-altering decisions about care.

At Project Ronin, we’re out to change this fast. Our mission is to dramatically improve cancer care by giving doctors and patients the tools they need to make better decisions about treatment. We’re developing a cancer intelligence platform that provides all the information physicians need, in one place, to assess patient care options and take action. We believe that this technology will allow for truly individualized care and will have an immediate impact on quality of life and survival rates.

The Data Science team at Project Ronin is an interdisciplinary team of statisticians, machine learning scientists/engineers, and data scientists that is helping Project Ronin realize its goal of improving cancer care. We do this through building personalized clinical decision support, conducting predictive modeling and statistical analyses, and running clinical studies to evaluate the effectiveness of our product.

We are looking for an experienced data scientist to join our team that is passionate about data and has specific experience with Oracle Analytics.

What you will do:

  • Analyze large, complex healthcare datasets to derive insights that can be used to understand our data, improve our product, and ultimately impact cancer outcomes.
  • Conduct in-depth investigations of our raw and processed data to evaluate its accuracy, completeness, and reliability
  • Work with product to build and maintain python-based reports to track customer usage

Build dashboards with Oracle Analytics and Autonomous DB to enable data exploration, monitoring of data quality, KPI reporting, and customer-facing clinical analyses.

  • Support our company in making data-driven decisions through careful and statistically rigorous analyses of customer data.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical informaticists, data engineers, product managers, and other data scientists.
  • Distill complex analyses into concise visualizations and takeaways to communicate to key stakeholders internally and externally.

What we are looking for:

  • A strong background in statistics and analytics, with 3+ years of industry experience as a data scientist (or analyst) or 3+ years academic research in a quantitative field.
  • Prior experience with Oracle Analytics
  • Strong programming experience in python and/or R (both preferred)
  • Experience in querying databases with SQL
  • Experience working with messy healthcare data to solve clinical problems
  • Passionate about exploratory data analysis
  • The ability to articulate your work clearly to a non-technical audience
  • Bonus: Prior experience with Oracle Autonomous DB

The base salary for this role is $177,600 - 190,200k annually with an equity component. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise & may vary from the amount above.

What We Offer:

  • We’re a remote-first company within the United States
  • Competitive salary and equity, based on experience
  • 401k through Guideline
  • Medical, dental, and vision 100% covered for employees and 70% for dependents
  • 100% covered life insurance for employees
  • Parental Leave
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation starting on your first day of work
  • 11 paid company holidays plus a week off during the winter holidays
  • All the stipends! Learning & development, internet, cell phone, and team lunches
  • Opportunity to work on impactful products in the complex cancer space

At Project Ronin, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of all cancer patients and their healthcare providers. Our goal is to create a clinical intelligence platform that offers real-time insights right at the point of care, by consolidating the most critical clinical data in one platform. Our solution connects patients with their medical teams and equips oncologists with the best information to provide effective treatment without adding to administrative burdens. Our team is united by our shared mission to support cancer patients, and we are proud to come from diverse walks of life, representing the patients we serve across the country, from California to Connecticut. Our inclusive culture is what allows us to thrive and build strong connections within our team and with the communities we serve.

  • to make data usable and consumable to our business, data science, and engineering teams
  • act as a bridge between the clinical and technological realms when considering data and its usage
  • curating and maintaining a portfolio of standard terminologies, content, and commercial references used by patients and providers in Ronin’s solutions

We achieve this by partnering cross-functionally across the organization to contextualize healthcare data and align it to standards, model features, satisfy application requirements, and other end use cases as we participate in all phases of a feature’s lifecycle. We provide technical expertise to those developing technical solutions while curating or creating critical content which is leveraged throughout Ronin’s platforms, and patient and clinician experiences.

If you enjoy working in a rapidly changing environment, dealing with lots of moving pieces, learning new technologies and systems and influencing the strategic direction of a uniquely positioned digital health organization, this role will provide opportunities for learning and delivering life-changing impact for people navigating cancer.

This is what you do!

  • You support and coach the team in all agile regards (think Scrummaster): from backlog refinement, planning, retrospectives, to demos. You coordinate the requests in and out of the teams you support, ensuring they are contextualized to your teams, are ready to execute against, and prioritized to meet dependency and organizational needs.
  • You recognize when a process needs improvement and work collaboratively to implement right-sized optimizations. You balance the need of process consistency with team needs, providing flexibility to fit the team’s norms.
  • You build roadmaps in alignment with business priorities, develop appropriate team level milestones, and drive alignment, focus, and transparency across teams and leadership.
  • You own and drive your team’s work, collaborating with partner teams involved in cross functional programs, making appropriate tradeoffs to optimize for multiple priorities, quality, and time to market.
  • You know when to push back, challenge an idea, and seek out compromise, and do so positively and for the benefit of the company in the interest of getting value to customers quickly.
  • You work closely with your teams to ensure that the right technical tradeoffs are being made, software practices and other processes are being followed, right priorities are being addressed, and progress is being made.
  • You champion program management and Scrum methodology skills through the programs you own and the teams you support.
  • You are data driven and seek to improve processes and interactions through metrics and retrospectives.
  • You are an evangelist for your teams and programs across the org, building relationships and trust with partners.

Do some or most of the below describe you? Let’s chat!

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in Technical Program Management or leading large scale and complex software development projects in an agile environment.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience supporting and coaching multiple Agile/Scrum teams within a domain as Scrummaster or similar role.
  • Bonus for experience supporting a new team’s journey through storming, norming, forming, and performing cycle in an Agile/Scrum context.

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify dependencies/risks and work with your engineering counterparts to mitigate.
  • Experience helping teams solve big data problems (data quality/health, validation and normalization, diverse data sets) and/or ability to understand and navigate data through the data pipeline (through services and across transformations) in support of this.
  • Comfortable interacting with a diverse set of technical and non-technical counterparts.
  • Strong organizational skills, successful track record of coordinating between multiple project stakeholders, technical program managers, and software development teams.
  • Possess a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, Scrum, and applying this understanding into practice with engineering teams.
  • Enjoy mentoring, sharing knowledge, and learning from your peers.
  • Great to have:
  • Direct experience helping teams translate end user functionality into approaches and strategies which result in consumable and understandable data.
  • Experience dealing with technical projects in governed or regulated environments and/or Standards bodies.
  • Experience with teams responsible for knowledge bases or internally established information systems.
