Software Engineer, Infrastructure

 •
Metronome
New York City
Series B
51-100

Metronome is the leading usage-based billing platform built for modern software companies. We help teams launch products faster, iterate on pricing quickly, and deliver a first-class billing experience—all with speed, control, and confidence.

p1w8

About the Role

--------------

The Infrastructure team builds foundational systems at scale. We're hundreds o billions of events per day through world scale custom streaming infrastructure, running invoice computations that push the limits of distributed systems, and building platforms that need to be correct, fast, and efficient simultaneously.

Work spans the full infrastructure stack—from streaming platforms ingesting usage data, to huge offline batch jobs, to the observability and deployment tooling that keeps everything running reliably. Every platform you build multiplies the effectiveness of the entire engineering org. If you're energized by hard technical challenges, building infrastructure that becomes a competitive moat, and operating systems at world scale, this is the role for you.

What You'll Do

--------------

  • Build platforms that scale: Design and operate foundational infrastructure—Kubernetes clusters, Kafka streaming platforms, Spark batch processing, observability systems—that handle billions of events and enable Metronome to grow with minimal friction.
  • Enable product velocity: Create golden paths, abstractions, and tooling that let engineers ship faster and more reliably without becoming infrastructure experts themselves.
  • Enable reliability as the product: Take accountability for system uptime, performance, and correctness. Build monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems that enable the entire team catch problems before customers notice.
  • Drive technical direction: Shape Metronome's infrastructure strategy, make platform-level architectural decisions, and mentor engineers across the organization.

Impact You'll Have

------------------

  • Multiply engineering effectiveness: Every tool you build, every deployment pipeline you improve, every observability gap you close makes dozens of engineers more productive. Your infrastructure decisions directly impact what and how fast the company can ship.
  • Power mission-critical workloads: Our infrastructure processes financial data for companies like Confluent, OpenAI and Anthropic—where accuracy, performance, and reliability aren't nice-to-haves, they're requirements. You'll build systems where correctness matters and downtime has real consequences.
  • Shape how we scale: You'll have a real voice in how we architect systems to handle 10x growth, which technologies we bet on, and how we build a world-class infrastructure organization.

Qualifications

--------------

  • 5+ years building infrastructure systems: Hands-on experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, data pipelines, observability, CI/CD, or other foundational platforms.
  • Ownership of production systems: Track record of operating mission-critical infrastructure with strong focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Force multiplier mindset: You build platforms that enable others. You create abstractions that make complex systems approachable. You think about developer experience as a first-class concern.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: You partner effectively with product teams, communicate technical decisions clearly, and mentor engineers across experience levels.

Tech stack

----------

The main expectation for the role is you’re excited to learn and work with whatever technologies make the most sense for the problem at hand. That said, our current tech stack includes:

  • Cloud Infrastructure (AWS: EKS, ECS, S3, RDS, Lambda, and more)
  • Container Orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Streaming & Batch Processing (Kafka, Kafka Streams, Spark)
  • Languages (Python, TypeScript, Java, Go)

Compensation

The estimated base salary range for this role is $171,200 - $246,000. In addition to your base salary, Metronome offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched equity, sales incentive pay (for eligible roles), comprehensive health benefits, and other benefits listed below.

The actual base salary will vary based on factors including market value, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process, and previous experience. The listed range above should serve as a guideline and may be modified at any time.

We believe that compensation reflects the expected impact you will have at the company, relative to the market value of your role. We also conduct an annual pay audit to ensure pay is fair, indexed to market value, and that pay takes into account continued performance at Metronome. If you would like to learn more about our philosophy or about why we are all billing nerds, send us a message. We’d love to talk!

  • Lead the conceptualization and design of advanced modeling solutions (ML, Statistics or Mathematical) to tackle complex, large-scale Logistics challenges, ensuring alignment with business value and stakeholder needs.
  • Take ownership of developing, implementing, and automating robust data science models and pipelines, including feature generation, retraining, and prediction deployment, leveraging tools like BigQuery and Spark as needed.

  • You possess expert-level Python skills (incl. pandas, scikit-learn, etc.), proficiency in SQL, and demonstrable experience building robust, maintainable, and automated ML pipelines using Big Data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Spark) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Metaflow), applying software engineering best practices.
  • You excel at translating ambiguous business requirements into well-defined technical problems and data science solutions, critically evaluating assumptions and ensuring data quality throughout the process.
  • You are a strong communicator, capable of clearly explaining complex technical concepts, model intuition, and business implications to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical stakeholders).
  • You are a proactive team player with proven experience collaborating effectively with peers and cross-functional teams (like Data Engineering and Tech) in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Fluency in English is required.

Nice to have:

  • Proven track record in designing, implementing, and analyzing complex experiments (beyond standard A/B tests) or applying causal inference methods.
  • Experience building interactive data visualizations, applications, or dashboards using libraries like Streamlit, Plotly Dash, or similar tools to communicate results effectively.

Philo: TV on the Internet!!!

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted native app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while cooking up next generation multi-screen and multi-user playback experiences.

QA Engineer - Automation Specialist

The frontend engineering teams at Philo ship applications to tens of millions of devices (e.g. Roku, iOS, Tizen, FireTV, Web, Chromecast, etc.) 10+ platforms. They are responsible for shipping high-quality apps, at a rapid pace and with an eye towards business value and user delight.

With so many devices, so many form factors, and so many features, things inevitably go wrong! We’re looking for a QA engineer to help us make sure that what we ship meets our high bar for quality. We believe that QA should be involved in the software development lifecycle from the beginning (what we call the “product discovery phase”), so that they know what “correct looks like”. Our QA team takes a collaborative approach and teams up with developers to test iteratively as the feature takes shape.

Because we’re a small team, automation is a key part of our QA strategy; we have regression suites for all of our major platforms. We expect our QA engineers to actively participate in the automation and add to the suite as we productionize new features. With that said, we still do manual QA on our features while they are still in the experimentation phase. In this role you will be expected to do both manual QA and automation testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the quality of 1-2 platforms. This includes manually testing new features, and improving the test suite for that platform.
  • Build upon automation suites across all of our major connected TV platforms including Web-TV (Samsung/Tizen, LG, Vizio), AndroidTV/FireTV, and Roku.
  • Work with product and engineering to prioritize test cases based on past bugs and risk tolerance within different parts of the app.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to incorporate new features into the regression suite.
  • Help developers triage and understand bugs that are found.
  • Facilitate company-wide bug bashes.
  • Own and update release documentation to reflect current production deployments, feature availability, and version histories.
  • Partner with devs to create test requests in our ticketing system (JIRA), and ensure tickets are kept up-to-date during the development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of QA experience
  • 2+ years of experience writing QA automation test code
  • Familiarity with Typescript/JS for test writing
  • Suite.st Testing Framework experience is a plus
  • Experience writing QA automation tests against connected TV and mobile devices
  • Experience testing video playback
  • Experience or familiarity with at least two of: Android testing, Roku testing, Apple testing, Web testing
  • Experience working closely with technical leads and engineering teams to drive project execution and maintain high code quality standards
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into business solutions.
  • Proven track record of leading projects and delivering impactful machine learning solutions.

Philo: TV on the Internet (TVoIP)

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while creating innovative ways for users to engage with their favorite content and discover that perfect show to watch next.

Roku at Philo

The Roku team at Philo is responsible for building our product experience on one of the biggest platforms in streaming TV: Roku streaming devices and Roku-enabled smart TVs. Philo’s Roku app has been a crucial platform for us since the Philo service first launched – Roku was our first “10-foot” (streaming TV device) platform and is one of our largest platforms by minutes watched. Historically, Roku has also been one of our primary platforms for prototyping nascent Philo features.

We’re a small autonomous team building apps with high engagement and millions of installs, which collectively are responsible for a huge fraction of the billions of minutes watched on Philo each year. We are passionate about crafting the best possible UX to connect our users with the content they love, providing a seamless viewing experience while surprising them with new features and capabilities. We’re highly focused on optimizing the 10-Foot Experience, and you will directly contribute to that effort. By joining the Roku team, you will be working on TV platforms at a TV company (📺📺📺📺👩‍💻📺📺📺📺), allowing you to make a large impact on Philo product design and development.

Recent projects on our Roku platform have included:

  • Building Philo’s next generation TV guide – a heavily virtualized, and highly performant modern take on the classic live TV browsing experience
  • Creating new ways to “watch while you browse” with picture-in-picture video and full screen overlays
  • Experimenting with autoplaying video and dynamic browsing experiences across collections of show and movie tiles
  • Creating a Storybook inspired development environment for our React-like Brightscript UI component library
  • Building a platform that allows us to effectively deploy, monitor, and rapidly iterate on experiments
  • Utilizing new BrightScript features like classes and types to augment the native language
  • Adding new Rooibos unit tests to our continuous integration pipeline

Philo engineers own what they build from start to finish and are passionate about continuously delivering delightful features to a huge user base. If you’re a Roku developer who cares deeply about writing quality code, using the latest tools & technologies to push the envelope of what’s possible on the platform across a variety of form factors and viewing experiences, we would love to talk to you!

As a Roku Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Building the Philo experience on Roku devices
  • Running experiments to monitor and analyze the impact of new features
  • Contributing to UX design decisions using your domain expertise
  • Helping the Philo frontend team grow

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience with the Roku platform, including SceneGraph and other Roku APIs
  • Familiarity with the Roku ecosystem, including capabilities, limitations, and best practices across devices
  • Familiarity with React, Redux concepts
  • 4+ years of frontend or UI experience
  • 2+ years of Roku development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field

A strong candidate might also have one or more of these:

  • Experience with GraphQL-based APIs
  • Development experience with video playback, cross-device interoperability (e.g. casting), or other 10-foot, connected TV platforms in general (e.g. Roku, Samsung or LG Smart TVs, FireTV, Android TV or Apple TV).

Company Overview

====================

Deepgram is the leading voice AI platform for developers building speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS) and full speech-to-speech (STS) offerings. 200,000+ developers build with Deepgram’s voice-native foundational models – accessed through APIs or as self-managed software – due to our unmatched accuracy, latency and pricing. Customers include software companies building voice products, co-sell partners working with large enterprises, and enterprises solving internal voice AI use cases. The company ended 2024 cash-flow positive with 400+ enterprise customers, 3.3x annual usage growth across the past 4 years, over 50,000 years of audio processed and over 1 trillion words transcribed. There is no organization in the world that understands voice better than Deepgram.

Company Operating Rhythm

============================

At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset—AI use and comfort aren’t optional, they’re core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.

Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Candidates should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into their workflows, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do.

Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly. This may not be the right role if you’re not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you’re seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5.

At Deepgram, we make it easy to create inspiring voice experiences. Today, we offer the Deepgram Enterprise Runtime, which powers low-latency, high-quality, affordable Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Voice Intelligence and Voice Agent APIs. What’s next? We’re building the speech company.

Our Customer Success team, known as The Heartbeat of Deepgram, sits at the intersection of customers, product, and growth. We’re not here just to “manage accounts”; we make Deepgram successful in our customers’ environments by combining technical expertise with commercial impact. Customer Success Engineers are hands-on partners who ensure adoption, solve complex technical challenges, and highlight opportunities for expansion. At the same time, we bring back the insights that shape Deepgram’s roadmap and the internal tools we build to support customers.

Who You Are

---------------

You are not a traditional CSM. You’re a Partner Success Engineer, someone who thrives at the intersection of APIs, customer outcomes, and channel growth. You have a strong technical foundation and are comfortable running demos, guiding architecture discussions, and helping customers integrate AI-driven solutions into their workflows. You’re equally skilled at reading a room, building trust with executives, and uncovering growth opportunities that come from technical adoption. You’ve likely been a Partner Manager, Technical Account Manager, Sales Engineer, Implementation Engineer, or Support Engineer, and you’re excited to bring that blended experience to help customers realize value from day one and scale it over time.

As a Partner Success Engineer, you will nurture and grow relationships with strategic customers and technology partners, leading initiatives that drive joint adoption, enablement, and measurable business outcomes. You will own the lifecycle for assigned partners from onboarding and enablement through engagement, performance analysis, and expansion.

You will be pivotal in aligning partner strategies with Deepgram’s roadmap and strategy, ensuring both Deepgram and our partners achieve shared success.

What You’ll Do

------------------

  • Develop and scale best practices, processes, and tools for partner success management.
  • Act as a technical expert and strategic advisor to strategic partners, engaging directly with developers, engineers, and executives to align business goals with technical solutions.
  • Build, nurture, and sustain partner/customer relationships across all personas interacting with Deepgram (from developers, program managers to CIOs, CTOs, and other C-level stakeholders).
  • Conduct regular on-site visits with partners, work hands-on to drive adoption, and actively embed Deepgram into their workflows
  • Own and manage the full partner lifecycle: onboarding, adoption, technical enablement, expansion, and advocacy.
  • Focus on making Deepgram successful in the partner ecosystem; ensuring products are integrated, enabled, and adopted effectively, applying best practices, reference architectures, and creative solutions to drive outcomes.
  • Continuously operate in discovery mode, surfacing issues, deeply understanding their complexity and business impact, and translating them into actionable requirements for internal teams.
  • Confidently run live product demos, guide architecture discussions, and troubleshoot L1-style issues, bridging the gap between technical support, solutions design, and commercial growth.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Deepgram APIs, integrations, and AI/ML technologies.
  • Leverage AI to amplify your impact; be an expert in how you can apply AI to drive customer outcomes, surface insights, and improve internal systems.
  • Proactively identify & scope opportunities for expansion (cross-sell, upsell, multi-product adoption), partnering with Sales.
  • Proactively initiate and lead executive business reviews, joint planning sessions, and strategy workshops to stay ahead of risks, ensure alignment, and surface opportunities for growth.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, influencing product roadmap, GTM strategy, and even the internal tools and processes we build to support customers.
  • Track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (adoption, usage, health, satisfaction, expansion, and overall revenue impact).
  • Lead issue resolution and serve as an escalation point for complex, cross-functional partner matters, ensuring timely and satisfactory outcomes.

You’ll Love This Role If You

--------------------------------

  • Thrive at the intersection of sales engineering, account management, and customer success.
  • Have high EQ and high learning index, you read the room, adapt your style, and quickly absorb technical and business complexity.
  • Are a strong communicator who can keep many stakeholders aligned and focused, often through constant updates and over-communication on status and ownership.
  • Are energized by technical problem-solving, live demos, and translating support questions into growth conversations or business outcomes.
  • See customer health and technical adoption not as endpoints but as the fuel for revenue expansion.
  • Value collaboration and thrive in high-growth, fast-paced environments where priorities shift quickly.
  • Have a high degree of integrity and can work both collaboratively and independently in a remote WFH environment. Being self-directed is key to staying proactive.
  • Enjoy leveraging data to guide decisions, uncover insights, and identify opportunities for program improvement.
  • Are persistent, resourceful, and able to adapt your communication style to suit both technical and business audiences.
  • Are thoughtful in your approach and constantly question the status quo. Just because we do things a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s the best way!

It’s Important To Us That You Have

  • 7–10+ years in Technical Account Management, Sales Engineering, and/or Enterprise Customer Success (with strong technical focus), at innovative, API-driven technology companies (developer-first, developer tools, or emerging AI/tech)
  • A proven track record in roles that blend customer engagement with technical expertise, navigating between solution design, technical problem-solving, and commercial growth.
  • Hands-on experience with running product demos, POCs, or technical workshops with enterprise customers.
  • Demonstrated success identifying expansions, cross-sell, and upsell opportunities in complex enterprise accounts.
  • Strong technical aptitude: able to discuss APIs, developer workflows, and troubleshoot basic L1-style support questions (no coding required, but must be fluent in technical conversations)
  • Experience engaging across technical teams (developers, architects, support) and executive buyers (CIO, CTO, VP Engineering, etc.). Demonstrated success building strong relationships and delivering key business outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills, with proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders (including executives, technical teams, and sales).
  • A strong sense of ownership and stewardship for your customers, and a keen focus on developing a strong personal brand.
  • A strong understanding of partner ecosystems, channel business models (resale, referral, integrations, co-marketing, co-selling), and multi-party commercial dynamics.
  • Experience building new processes from the ground up.
  • Experience building or scaling a customer success or channel program.

It Would Be Great If You Had

--------------------------------

  • A background spanning solutions engineering, technical account management, or L1 support in addition to CSM or Partner Management responsibilities.
  • Experience working in AI, machine learning, voice AI, cloud infrastructure, or developer-first technologies.
  • Familiarity with automation tools, advanced analytics, and/or basic scripting that help you move faster and smarter.
  • Familiarity with channel/partner marketing, enablement programs, or technical enablement asset creation.

This job description incorporates the strategic focus, cross-functional partnership, and data-driven approach that define Deepgram’s go-to-market and customer-centric roles. If you’re passionate about helping partners and technology companies thrive together, and you love operating where innovation and relationship management intersect, we’d like to hear from you.

Backed by prominent investors including Y Combinator, Madrona, Tiger Global, Wing VC and NVIDIA, Deepgram has raised over $85 million in total funding. If you're looking to work on cutting-edge technology and make a significant impact in the AI industry, we'd love to hear from you!

Deepgram is an equal opportunity employer. We want all voices and perspectives represented in our workforce. We are a curious bunch focused on collaboration and doing the right thing. We put our customers first, grow together and move quickly. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, pregnancy, parental status, genetic information, political affiliation, or any other status protected by the laws or regulations in the locations where we operate.
