Job Description

---------------

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Logistics Optimization team on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

The Optimization Tribe's purpose is to maximize Delivery Hero's logistics performance. We achieve this by owning and continuously improving the sophisticated algorithm that solves the real-time vehicle routing problem, assigning orders efficiently every minute. This directly impacts DH's core efficiency and customer satisfaction KPIs, influencing decisions for stakeholders from Operations to Product.

As a Data Scientist, your value lies in tackling these fascinating problems head-on and building ML products which provide critical inputs in solving the dispatching problem to meet our long-term goals of best-in-class efficiency and service, making a tangible impact across the Delivery Hero network.

  • Lead the conceptualization and design of advanced modeling solutions (ML, Statistics or Mathematical) to tackle complex, large-scale Logistics challenges, ensuring alignment with business value and stakeholder needs.
  • Take ownership of developing, implementing, and automating robust data science models and pipelines, including feature generation, retraining, and prediction deployment, leveraging tools like BigQuery and Spark as needed.
  • Actively drive technical discussions and problem-solving sessions, contributing significant expertise and innovative ideas to overcome the toughest modeling hurdles alongside your Data Science peers and squad lead.
  • Translate sophisticated analytical findings and model outcomes into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders, demonstrably driving value and improvements in key business metrics.
  • Proactively engage with Data & ML Engineering and Tech teams to define critical data requirements and influence technical roadmaps, ensuring the necessary data infrastructure for impactful projects.
  • Make a significant impact within our fast-paced, global organization by delivering high-quality solutions, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the team's overall growth and best practices.

Qualifications

--------------

  • You have significant experience (ideally 5+ years) designing and implementing diverse machine learning models (e.g., regression, classification, tree-based ensembles) to solve real-world business problems, backed by a strong theoretical foundation in statistics and probability.
  • You possess expert-level Python skills (incl. pandas, scikit-learn, etc.), proficiency in SQL, and demonstrable experience building robust, maintainable, and automated ML pipelines using Big Data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Spark) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Metaflow), applying software engineering best practices.
  • You excel at translating ambiguous business requirements into well-defined technical problems and data science solutions, critically evaluating assumptions and ensuring data quality throughout the process.
  • You are a strong communicator, capable of clearly explaining complex technical concepts, model intuition, and business implications to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical stakeholders).
  • You are a proactive team player with proven experience collaborating effectively with peers and cross-functional teams (like Data Engineering and Tech) in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Fluency in English is required.

Nice to have:

  • Proven track record in designing, implementing, and analyzing complex experiments (beyond standard A/B tests) or applying causal inference methods.
  • Experience building interactive data visualizations, applications, or dashboards using libraries like Streamlit, Plotly Dash, or similar tools to communicate results effectively.
  • Some experience with formulating and solving optimization problems relevant to logistics would be nice.

Additional Information

----------------------

Ensuring you and all our Heroes are looked after, happy, and healthy is always on the menu. Because if you’re in good shape, then we’re in good shape.

  • Make the most of our hybrid working model and join the team for face-to-face connection and collaboration in our beautiful Berlin campus 2 days a week
  • We offer 27 days holiday with an extra day on 2nd and 3rd year of service
  • We will support you in developing yourself and your career growth opportunities: 1.000 € Educational Budget, Language Courses, Parental Support and access to the Udemy Business platform to explore a variety of online courses.
  • Get moving and release those wonderful, mind-boosting endorphins: Health Checkups, Meditation, Yoga, Gym & Bicycle Subsidy

  • Contribute to the architecture of our internal cloud ecosystem, improving scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and security specialists to design self-service workflows that balance agility with compliance.

  • Participate in team discussions and propose innovative solutions that enhance automation, performance, and user satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Golang, with experience building and maintaining production-grade services.
  • Solid understanding of AWS and GCP fundamentals (IAM, networking, projects/accounts, resource provisioning).
  • Experience working with APIs, microservices, and distributed architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to reason about complex systems at scale.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • A mindset oriented toward automation, reliability, and developer experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, ACK, Config Connector, Cloudformation).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Previous work on access management, identity and permissions, or security compliance at scale.
  • Understanding of service mesh or multi-cloud networking concepts.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or internal developer platforms.
  • Interest in working on high-scale systems that impact thousands of developers daily.

Philo: TV on the Internet!!!

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted native app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while cooking up next generation multi-screen and multi-user playback experiences.

QA Engineer - Automation Specialist

The frontend engineering teams at Philo ship applications to tens of millions of devices (e.g. Roku, iOS, Tizen, FireTV, Web, Chromecast, etc.) 10+ platforms. They are responsible for shipping high-quality apps, at a rapid pace and with an eye towards business value and user delight.

With so many devices, so many form factors, and so many features, things inevitably go wrong! We’re looking for a QA engineer to help us make sure that what we ship meets our high bar for quality. We believe that QA should be involved in the software development lifecycle from the beginning (what we call the “product discovery phase”), so that they know what “correct looks like”. Our QA team takes a collaborative approach and teams up with developers to test iteratively as the feature takes shape.

Because we’re a small team, automation is a key part of our QA strategy; we have regression suites for all of our major platforms. We expect our QA engineers to actively participate in the automation and add to the suite as we productionize new features. With that said, we still do manual QA on our features while they are still in the experimentation phase. In this role you will be expected to do both manual QA and automation testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the quality of 1-2 platforms. This includes manually testing new features, and improving the test suite for that platform.
  • Build upon automation suites across all of our major connected TV platforms including Web-TV (Samsung/Tizen, LG, Vizio), AndroidTV/FireTV, and Roku.
  • Work with product and engineering to prioritize test cases based on past bugs and risk tolerance within different parts of the app.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to incorporate new features into the regression suite.
  • Help developers triage and understand bugs that are found.
  • Facilitate company-wide bug bashes.
  • Own and update release documentation to reflect current production deployments, feature availability, and version histories.
  • Partner with devs to create test requests in our ticketing system (JIRA), and ensure tickets are kept up-to-date during the development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of QA experience
  • 2+ years of experience writing QA automation test code
  • Familiarity with Typescript/JS for test writing
  • Suite.st Testing Framework experience is a plus
  • Experience writing QA automation tests against connected TV and mobile devices
  • Experience testing video playback
  • Experience or familiarity with at least two of: Android testing, Roku testing, Apple testing, Web testing
  • Experience working closely with technical leads and engineering teams to drive project execution and maintain high code quality standards
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills

Philo: TV on the Internet (TVoIP)

At Philo, we’re a group of technology and product people who set out to build the future of television, marrying the best in modern technology with the most compelling medium ever invented — in short, we’re building the TV experience that we’ve always wanted for ourselves. In practice this means leveraging cloud delivery, modern tech stacks, machine learning, and hand-crafted app experiences on all of our platforms. We aim to deliver a rock solid experience on the streaming basics, while creating innovative ways for users to engage with their favorite content and discover that perfect show to watch next.

Roku at Philo

The Roku team at Philo is responsible for building our product experience on one of the biggest platforms in streaming TV: Roku streaming devices and Roku-enabled smart TVs. Philo’s Roku app has been a crucial platform for us since the Philo service first launched – Roku was our first “10-foot” (streaming TV device) platform and is one of our largest platforms by minutes watched. Historically, Roku has also been one of our primary platforms for prototyping nascent Philo features.

We’re a small autonomous team building apps with high engagement and millions of installs, which collectively are responsible for a huge fraction of the billions of minutes watched on Philo each year. We are passionate about crafting the best possible UX to connect our users with the content they love, providing a seamless viewing experience while surprising them with new features and capabilities. We’re highly focused on optimizing the 10-Foot Experience, and you will directly contribute to that effort. By joining the Roku team, you will be working on TV platforms at a TV company (📺📺📺📺👩‍💻📺📺📺📺), allowing you to make a large impact on Philo product design and development.

Recent projects on our Roku platform have included:

  • Building Philo’s next generation TV guide – a heavily virtualized, and highly performant modern take on the classic live TV browsing experience
  • Creating new ways to “watch while you browse” with picture-in-picture video and full screen overlays
  • Experimenting with autoplaying video and dynamic browsing experiences across collections of show and movie tiles
  • Creating a Storybook inspired development environment for our React-like Brightscript UI component library
  • Building a platform that allows us to effectively deploy, monitor, and rapidly iterate on experiments
  • Utilizing new BrightScript features like classes and types to augment the native language
  • Adding new Rooibos unit tests to our continuous integration pipeline

Philo engineers own what they build from start to finish and are passionate about continuously delivering delightful features to a huge user base. If you’re a Roku developer who cares deeply about writing quality code, using the latest tools & technologies to push the envelope of what’s possible on the platform across a variety of form factors and viewing experiences, we would love to talk to you!

As a Roku Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Building the Philo experience on Roku devices
  • Running experiments to monitor and analyze the impact of new features
  • Contributing to UX design decisions using your domain expertise
  • Helping the Philo frontend team grow

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience with the Roku platform, including SceneGraph and other Roku APIs
  • Familiarity with the Roku ecosystem, including capabilities, limitations, and best practices across devices
  • Familiarity with React, Redux concepts
  • 4+ years of frontend or UI experience
  • 2+ years of Roku development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field

A strong candidate might also have one or more of these:

  • Experience with GraphQL-based APIs
  • Development experience with video playback, cross-device interoperability (e.g. casting), or other 10-foot, connected TV platforms in general (e.g. Roku, Samsung or LG Smart TVs, FireTV, Android TV or Apple TV).
