Construct and monitor: Your team will build and run our vital business services, affectionately known as 'Zaps'. Your drive for engineering excellence and scalability will ensure that these services perform optimally, powering millions of users across the globe.
Execute and Authenticate: Your technical skills and strategic judgment will be instrumental to our operations. Your team will be responsible for executing and authenticating actions within our system, ensuring our users enjoy a seamless experience.
Enable and Empower: Your and your team’s work will be crucial to the continued evolution of Zapier's core workflow product along with the broader product catalog. Collaborating with other team leaders, you'll align technological advancements with broader company objectives.

About You

You are an effective team builder. You're no stranger to this kind of work. You have at least two years of experience managing teams of Backend Engineers. You know how to hire, train, and develop engineers from all backgrounds. You understand the benefits of building a diverse and inclusive engineering team.
You’re a product thinker. As an Engineering Manager, you’ve worked to set goals, metrics, and a strategy for a product-focused Engineering team. You push your team to prioritize impactful work to meet the company’s goals.
You can keep track of, prioritize, and lead multiple projects. We're a small team, and there's no shortage of things you could be doing in a day. You'll carve out time for functional projects and make sure they solve real problems the team faces -- ideally making development even easier.
You have excellent communication skills. You regularly work with engineers and other stakeholders from various disciplines, balancing engineering concerns, such as technical debt, with product concerns. Ideally, you find solutions that address both the team and user needs but if not, help build understanding around difficult decisions.
You are a skilled engineering leader. You've got a strong background in leading a team of Engineers working in our stack (Python, Django or React, ES6 or Node.js, etc.). Even if you aren't a daily coder, you regularly exercise your coding muscles and try to be an asset in any technical context your team may need.
You're adaptable. You've been in fast growing companies and know how to build, change, and adapt to the needs of a company as it grows.

Things You'll Do

Partner closely with your engineering function and peer design function and product function to create a trio that tackles user problems and solutions.
Develop effective ways to communicate, monitor, and lead your team through weekly one-on-one’s and team meetings.
Keep leadership informed of your team’s progress in ways that are transparent, approachable, and engaging.
Mentor engineers and help them grow in their careers through coaching, sponsorship, and thoughtful guidance.
Participate in code reviews, learning and spreading technical knowledge throughout Zapier -- moving knowledge to documentation where appropriate.
Occasionally dive into the code; fixing bugs, improving developer experience, smoothing edges -- sometimes even spiking out small proofs of concept.

The Functions team is a small, nimble team working to scale a new product from hundreds to tens-of-thousands of users. As such, a successful applicant will likely get the opportunity to work on a variety of project, including:

Participate in customer calls, understand pain-points, and work with your peer engineers and EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) leadership to suggest possible technical solutions to the wider team.
Build features that allow customers to more easily handle errors in their automations by merging Zapier integrations existing error processing routines with language-native error handling.
Work on improving our Functions execution model, such that we can run arbitrarily long untrusted integrations safely and efficiently.
Build excellent migration tooling, so customers code is automatically updated as integrations change in the Zapier system.
Leverage our observability tooling to track and understand user pain-points. Turn these insights into actionable tasks for the team.

You have knowledge of ML/LLM data structures and modeling, software architecture, libraries and frameworks to create models that sufficiently meet the needs of project goals.
You combine your strong applied ML/LLM knowledge with statistical expertise (e.g. confidence intervals, regression modeling, significance testing). You have strong mathematics skills, especially in statistics, to create algorithms. This includes demonstrated experience with common ML techniques for deep data mining and exploration (e.g. predictive modeling, time series modeling, classification, and clustering techniques). Audio Engineers working for Biggest Little Studio are responsible for all audio content required for the games they are assigned; this includes music, sound effects, voice over, ringtones, and any marketing material requests. This position requires a high degree of flexibility as it crosses several traditional audio disciplines and often requires multi-tasking all disciplines to meet deadlines. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with artist and programmers.

As audio implementation is completed by Technical Artists (TA's), the Audio Engineers are required to communicate very specifically to TA's and programmers as to how and where audio should be implemented. This is accomplished through a standard implementation document. Once the audio has been implemented, the Audio Engineer checks to make sure the files are functioning properly and the overall audio mix and feeling for the game are appropriate.
